What Are Football Grip Socks?

Football grip socks are performance socks featuring silicone or rubberised grip elements underneath the foot. Unlike standard football socks, these grips are designed to increase friction between your sock and the inside of your football boot.

The idea is simple: less unwanted movement inside your boots and a more secure feel when you play.

What Do Grip Socks Do in Football?

During football, you're constantly accelerating, stopping, turning and changing direction. With ordinary socks, your foot can move slightly inside your boot during these movements.

Football grip socks are designed to minimise that movement.

The anti-slip grips underneath the sock create additional friction inside your football boots, helping your feet feel more secure during quick changes of direction, sprinting and striking the ball.

How Do You Wear Football Grip Socks?

Most players wear their football grip socks below their team football socks.

The foot section of the team's match sock is cut off, leaving the lower leg section in place. Your grip socks are then worn normally underneath, with the cut match sock pulled over the top.

Sock tape or football sock sleeves can be used around the overlap to create a secure finish.

This allows players to keep their team's required sock colours while still wearing grip socks inside their football boots.
